Avatar of Pestilence
Some beings are so foul as to draw the attention of the master of the Throne of Flies, and he is always willing to use them to spread more illness and disease throughout the planes. Such beings are often more than pleased, as such a gift grants them powers beyond the understanding of many creatures, eventually creating a killer beyond compare in the arts of poison, disease, and subterfuge. Let the petty gods of assassination have their shadow war and reach for the hem of his robe; Apollyon’s agents are illness manifest!

The following are class features of the avatar of pestilence prestige class.
Damned (Ex): When an avatar of pestilence is killed, her soul is instantly claimed by Apollyon, the Prince of Locusts. For her foul deeds committed in favor of her dark patron, the avatar of pestilence’s soul is eventually transformed into a leukodaemon of a power level appropriate to her living form’s strength. Any character attempting to resurrect a slain avatar of pestilence must succeed at a caster level check equal to 10 + the avatar of pestilence’s level or the spell fails. That character cannot attempt to resurrect the avatar of pestilence again until the following day, though other characters can attempt to do so if they please.
Obedience (Ex): In order to maintain the abilities gained from this prestige class (including all abilities that have been augmented by this prestige class), an avatar of pestilence must indulge in a daily obedience to her master, the Horseman of Pestilence. This ceremony must be of a form appropriate to Apollyon’s interests; at minimum involving inflicting poison or disease upon a single living entity, but more elaborate acts are favored. Such a ceremony is incorporated into whatever method the avatar of pestilence uses to regain daily abilities (such as praying to a demon lord, meditating, or studying a spellbook).
Pestilent Pool (Su): gain a number of pestilent pool points equal to the severity of the morning’s ritual + 3. gain additional points in a manner similar to the gunslinger, only involving poisoning something to death (killing blow is poison damage, or contributed significantly to the defeat of the creature (GM’s discretion)) or inflicting a disease upon it which will cripple it and ensure its demise (GM’s discretion), or critting while utilizing poisoned/diseased weaponry
Blessing of Pestilence: At 2nd level and every two levels thereafter, an avatar of pestilence receives a blessing of pestilence. X X X X The save DC of any saving throw called for by a blessing of pestilence is equal to 10 + the avatar of pestilence’s class level + her Constitution modifier. Spell-like abilities have a caster level equal to her class level. The avatar of pestilence can’t receive the same blessing more than once unless otherwise noted.
Disease Use: As the rogue talent of the same name. The avatar of pestilence applies filth fever to her weapon in the same amount of time it takes her to apply poison to a weapon. The avatar of pestilence must have the plague bringer class ability before selecting this discovery.
Part of the Disease (Su): as a standard action, can expend 1 pestilence point to recover 1 point of Constitution damage
Quick Poison (Ex): The amount of time it takes for the avatar of pestilence to apply poison or disease to a weapon is decreased by one step, to a minimum of a swift action. This blessing of pestilence may be taken multiple times, but only once per three avatar of pestilence levels.
Sneak Attack +1d6 (Ex): This ability is exactly like the rogue ability of the same name. If the avatar of pestilence gains a sneak attack bonus from another source, the bonuses on damage stack. The avatar of pestilence must be at least 3rd level before selecting this training.
Swarm Form (Su): As an immediate action whenever an avatar of pestilence is damaged, she can spend 1 pestilent point to temporarily transform her body into a swarm of insects which still hold her form. This functions as the X X X X X X and lasts until the start of her next turn. While in this swarm form, the avatar of pestilence still takes damage from the attack, no matter its type. Whatever damage the avatar of pestilence would have taken is instead reduced to its minimum value, and any
The Source of Suffering (Ex): The avatar of pestilence can choose to excrete a Constitution poison instead of a Dexterity poison. This poison works the same as the source of weakness blessing of pestilence poison except that a failed save deals 1 point of Constitution damage. The avatar of pestilence must have the source of weakness blessing of pestilence and poisonous being class feature before selecting this discovery.
The Source of Weakness (Ex): The avatar of pestilence’s blood is a source of strong poison. By spending 1 pestilent point as a swift action, the avatar of pestilence may create a poison that can be applied to a weapon or delivered as a touch attack. The avatar of pestilence must either spit or bleed (using blood requires the avatar of pestilence to be injured when she uses this ability) onto the weapon to apply this poison; this requires an amount of time equal to the time it takes to apply poison to a weapon. The avatar of pestilence can also smear the poison on her own body as a standard action, affecting the first creature to touch her, strike her with an unarmed strike, or hit her with a natural weapon. The poison loses its potency after 1 hour. The avatar of pestilence must have the poisonous being class feature before selecting this discovery.
Avatar of pestilence Poison: Skin or weapon—contact or injury; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d2 Dexterity damage; cure 1 save.
Toxic Being (Ex): Any creature that bites, engulfs, or swallows the avatar of pestilence must make a Fortitude saving throw or be nauseated for a number of rounds equal to her Constitution modifier. The avatar of pestilence must have the poisonous being class feature before selecting this discovery
Toxin Extracts (Ex): The avatar of pestilence is granted insight into the realm of self-produced poisons normally only available to alchemists. She can use a number of toxin extracts each day equal to her Intelligence modifier + 1/2 her class level, and
Plague Bringer (Ex): At 3rd level, the favor of the horseman of pestilence make an avatar of pestilence a beacon of corruption and disease. An avatar of pestilence does not take any damage or take any penalty from diseases. She can still contract diseases and spread them to others, but she is otherwise immune to their effects.
Aura of Affliction (Su): At 4th level, an avatar of pestilence radiates a subtle aura that undermines the immune systems of all enemies within 10 feet, causing them to take a –4 penalty on saving throws against poison and disease. Creatures that are normally immune to disease and poison lose that immunity while within 10 feet of an avatar of pestilence with this ability, but do not take the –4 penalty to their saves. This ability functions only while the avatar of pestilence remains conscious, not if she is unconscious or dead.
Poisonous Being (Ex): At 5th level, an avatar of pestilence becomes immune to poison. Further, the avatar of pestilence’s body is suffused with poison. Any creature that bites, engulfs, or swallows the avatar of pestilence must make a Fortitude saving throw or be sickened for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 her Constitution modifier.
Vile Secretions (Su): At 7th level, the avatar of pestilence is a dangerous foe to attack. As an immediate action whenever an avatar of pestilence takes piercing or slashing damage, she can spend pestilent points to conjure her most potent poison to spray from the wound in retaliation, striking her attacker. She may use a number of pestilent points equal to the caster level of any toxin she knows from the toxin class feature or one pestilent point to use her her avatar of pestilence poison for this spray. The avatar of pestilence must make a touch attack to hit the target, and gains a +4 circumstance bonus on her attack roll. If she hits, her opponent must make a Fortitude save against her chosen poison or toxin. If the attack was a critical hit, she may choose to suffer one point of Constitution damage in addition to the damage from the attack to add 1/2 her character level to the DC, or spray an additional adjacent target, at her choice.
Pestilent Champion: At 10th level, an avatar of pestilence gains the worm that walks template (see the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 2) in a style of vermin which best suits her personality. This works similarly to the swarm form ability, except that the avatar of pestilence may return to her original form at will, and neither form has a duration.
- Needs weak worm that walks features which build to the peak
- Needs ability to become a swarm and deliver any of her poisons while affecting foes with swarm attacks
